Birdie’s III Battle

Birdies battle: 3rd times a charm. November 2021, Birdie’s 3rd tumor returned. She had to leave MD Anderson care and start treatment at OU Medical due to the insurance policy changing. She had surgery Feb 14th 2022, for a partial resection. The surgeon removed part of the tumor and she was ready to get back to work to teach her sweet “FRIENDS (students). A month later, she was having signs that something was wrong. She had another Craniotomy in April to clean out the infection that set up in her brain. Her mobility and speech were effected greatly after this procedure. At that time, a hard decision to go on long term disability was made. She attended a local rehabilitation for 4 months with little to no improvement. In November she was fortunate to attend PATE Neuro Rehabilitation in Anna, Tx. She was working hard for 5 days a week until Feb. 2023, when declining signs started again. Her tumor was growing back and her only option in Oklahoma was a chemo trial, after 2 months in, we received devastating news, not only did the chemo trial not help, but her tumor had grown 4x larger, Glioblastoma was on a rampage. Her speech was gone and all her mobility on her right side. They were preparing her to start another trial to find out, she was too weak and sick and critically low on blood so she had a blood transfusion. At this point, her only option is awake surgery, but Oklahoma does not offer this surgery. After many hours of research, arguing, crying, and involvement from her neurologist, insurance continued to tell us NO, over and over for weeks. Feeling devastated and defeated, God has intervened and blessed us with a handful of people that fought for a way to get her approved to go out of state. We will be going to UCLA hopefully in the next couple of weeks to have Dr. Liau preform the awake surgery to resection the Glioblastoma, once again. Dr. Liau was her neurosurgeon for her first tumor in 2007. So we are thrilled that she took immediate attention to her needs. The purpose of this fundraiser is going towards travel, stay and any medical expenses not covered by insurance. Any amount you can donate, will be greatly appreciate and Prayers are always needed.
