Commencing in May 2026, Melbourne based musician Birdgirl will be embarking on a 3,125km journey across Australia by foot. Walking from Perth to Melbourne solo and camping out along the way, she will be raising awareness and access to the arts in Australia.

Access to the arts should be a right not a privilege, and with this strong belief she will be raising funds for Grow the Music and Slamtidote Inc. Grow the Music is a social enterprise that brings musical equipment, education and mentorship to Indigenous communities, as well as people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Slamtidote is a Not-For-Profit Incorporated Association focused on bringing poetry & music to ethnic, femme and queer communities around Naarm (Melbourne) as well as creative + life skills workshops. With a strong foundation in running grass roots self-organised events of music by local singer songwriters and poetry open mics, Slamtidote is also known for their self published zines. With a strong emphasis on philanthropy and mutual aid, they also make sure to donate to a charity every month. Emphasising on running all their events on a "pay what you can" basis, the funds raised for Slamtidote will go directly towards their venue hire costs and printing costs, which will directly make their events and publications even more accessible to the local communities.

The reason this walk is taking place is because the arts have not been prioritised as a necessity to the majority of Australians. For too long, the arts have been defunded, education relating to the arts has been made increasingly inaccessible and our governments have proven that unless you come from a place of privilege - your story doesn't deserve to be heard.

I want to help combat this, and help increase opportunities for people across this beautiful country. Follow along on this journey and help me reach my goal of raising $10,000 for Grow The Music and $10,000 for Slamtidote.
