Help Train Sierra Leone’s New Generation of Bird Ringers and Protect Wildlife

I’m Matt, a licensed bird ringer from the UK. I’ve travelled to Sierra Leone twice to help monitor its incredible birdlife — over 650 species live there, yet almost no formal bird monitoring exists.

While working there, I met passionate local people who know the land and want to protect the wildlife they live alongside. But Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, and even basic equipment like rings, nets, and field tools are almost impossible to get.

This project aims to change that.

I’m raising funds to train local conservationists to become qualified bird ringers. With the right training and equipment, they will finally be able to collect essential data, monitor bird populations, and lead their own conservation work, which will build long-term expertise within the community.
These trainees are eager to learn and I believe in them completely.

Any support you can give will directly help them gain the skills and tools they need to protect Sierra Leone’s birds and inspire others to do the same.

Thank you all so much.
