Dear friends and family, this GoFundMe account is created by me (Meseret Abera Tesema) to raise funds for my younger brother Binyam Abera (age 37) for his medical treatment. Binyam has been in ill health for the last month battling with kidney disease. He was recently diagnosed with Kidney failure and he is currently undergoing dialysis in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This has been shocking for our family, both emotionally and financially. At this point, my brother is advised that the only option of treatment  is a Kidney Transplantation from a living donor urgently. We have found a very close family member (our youngest sister) who is willing to be a Living Donor. Unfortunately, there are no Kidney Transplantation Centers in Ethiopia. Therefore, he must get his Kidney transplant done abroad (specifically in India). We got in touch with a few medical centers that do Kidney Transplantation in India, and received rough quotations for the procedure. The procedure requires a complex surgery both on my brother and our sister, with a three week hospital stay for him and about 10 days hospital stay for his donor. In addition to the cost of the actual procedure, there will be costs for a third person to travel with Binyam and our donor sister as a care giver. Also, the procedure requires a long recovery period after discharge from the hospital. After the procedure and the discharge from the hospital, there will be two to three month long stay in India for the required follow-ups and treatments before he is cleared to travel back to Ethiopia. Hence, the costs do add up and become prohibitively too high for our family to get Binyam his Kidney transplant. Hence, comes my plea to you, friends and family, to extend your giving hands financially. As some may have experienced in their lives, it is excruciatingly painful to see a younger sibling in need of help and not being able to do anything at all, especially due to financial constraints. It is PAINFUL! If the fundraising is successful, Binyam will be traveling to India with his living donor within the next 30 days.
