Binta’s travel to Sierra Leone for Dad’s funeral

Hello there,
My name is Binta and I am personally seeking financial support through this fundraising campaign here because I am supporting myself, my soon to be 4 yr old daughter, my mother, and some relatives back home in Sierra Leone (SL) all on one post doc salary from the National Institutes of Health. So, I ask you to please help me fund our travel to SL this Fall to grieve and get closure from my father’s death. My father passed away a month ago on July 26th, 2024. He was only 68 years old. My oldest brother performed the burial ceremony, while I was able to send money for funeral expenses. It is my hope I can travel with my two wonderful companions (Mom and Issa) as soon as we can secure Issa Bella’s US passport, purchase visas to enter SL, and flight tickets to and from the US. This means, three round-trip tickets from DC international airport to Freetown (the capital of SL) airport in SL with layovers in London or Paris most likely. It’s my hope that all your donation(s) will help cover some or all of our travel expenses to and from SL and any additional unexpected travel expenses that may come up while in SL. Traveling to another country is always a great financial and personal investment in both time, money, effort and strength because it can drain the pockets and the person's energy, especially when traveling with a toddler and an elderly person like my mom who is also physically impaired with limited mobility.
