Binghamton Hyperloop

Since the dawn of civilization, mankind has continually evolved how to transport people. From the invention of the wheel, to the development of the first jet engine, humans have always been driven to go faster. While that sentiment has lessened in recent years, a new push by SpaceX and Tesla Motors founder, Elon Musk, has reinvigorated the need for speed. His idea: safe, grounded, and efficient travel in pods through evacuated tubes, traveling at velocities rivaling the fastest airliners, called Hyperloop.

To foster ideation and creativity, SpaceX has pitched the Hyperloop Design Competition, an initiative aimed at ambitious engineers looking to join the revolution. This year, students from the Watson School of Engineering at Binghamton University will enter into this competition alone. We are the only SUNY (State University of New York) school to enter the competition without a partner school. Our task: design, build, and test a working Hyperloop pod within the next 10 months. If selected for competition by SpaceX, Binghamton Hyperloop will compete at the national competition in 2017. With your help and contribution, we will be able to join the Hyperloop revolution!
