Bin Babies - Biffa and Binkie

Hi, we are Stephen and Carol fresh back from a yoga retreat in Crete. While there we were going round the village feeding the local street cats each day. We discovered 2 sets of tiny kittens fending for themselves amongst the bigger cats. There is no sharing among the cats as only the strongest survive. It was already getting really cold at night and these kittens according to a lot of locals had a good chance of not surviving the winter because they aren’t big and strong enough to make it through. With this in mind we contacted a local lady who helps with cat rescue. We knew we could commit to paying to bring 2 home and give them their forever home but paying for 4 was too much of a stretch but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to leave the other 2 knowing their chances to survive were very slim. Especially the 2 living by the bins where there is no regular food coming from a nearby restaurant and they have to learn to go through the rubbish for food. It’s heartbreaking to see any of the cats but the bigger ones have clearly survived as they were born at the right time to be strong enough for the winter but the 2 babies looked so tiny and frail. So we decided we’d catch all 4 kittens and try raising money to get the other 2 back to us where we can work on getting them their forever home. An exact amount is difficult to assess according to the rescue lady. We need to pay a daily fostering fee, food, medication (worming, flea treatments) plus vaccinations including rabies and along with that comes vet fees. Then there is the transport. This is also organised by local rescue people and could be ground or air transport. It’s an unknown until the vet confirms they’re fit for travel and the rabies and worming are given at the appropriate time for travel when slots are available along with the many wonderful volunteers who help out during transport. Right now the kittens are all very scared and wary as they’re not used to human contact and close proximity. The vet was able to weigh them and brother and sister, Biffa and Binkie at around 4 months old weigh just over 1kg. Time will help calm them. So, that’s our story so far. We would be so so grateful for any donations large or small to help us get these beautiful Bin Babies back to the Uk to start their new life of love, warmth, fun and full bellies. They’ve already made a start by no longer being nameless bin cats and actually having names. We will use the money for all the payments needed for this rescue project. Paying it directly to the rescue lady (who sends photos of all the receipts) in Crete who’s done many rescues over many years and also feeds around 70 cats a day at local cat colonies. She gets as many as possible neutered using a free neutering programme to try and reduce the number of street cats. If we were lucky enough to raise more than we need then we will donate any remaining funds to her towards all she does for the local street cats. Many thanks in advance to all you wonderful animal lovers and crazy cat people
