Billy Hickox, a 21 year-old Bryant University student, suffered a rapid health decline in March 2023 stemming from an unknown cause. Spending 65 days in a coma in Stony Brook University Hospital's intensive care unit, Billy experienced major vision loss and a significant decrease in muscle mass. Billy has been paralyzed from the waist down, with a possible diagnosis of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM). He then spent six weeks in the Burke Rehabilitation Facility in White Plains, eventually returning home to Long Island's North Fork in mid-July.
At this time, the Hickox family needs assistance to assure Billy's long and short term care, as they prepare for a recovery period of up to 2 years. A bedroom and a handicap-accessible bathroom will be built to accommodate his needs.
Billy's family appreciates the continued support from friends, family, and the community.
