Billy's Battle: to walk again
Donation protected
Hello, his name is Billy Garrison. And a simple outpatient surgery has left him fighting for answers and prayers for the ability to walk again. That’s right he walked in for a normal surgery and was supposed to go home that day instead complications to the surgery has left him paralyzed and Doctor, struggling for an answers after a week in ICU still hasn’t recovered. And dr’s say there’s a 90% chance he will never walk again. He was injured on the job working for a small mom-and-pop company working on yachts on January 9th, 2024, and has been dealing with workers' comp, which has been a nightmare. But that’s not even close you see Billy got trapped underneath the subfloor in a 46’ yacht in the shipyard where he was working alone. After an hour and 45-minute struggle to free himself, his head was stuck behind a flooring beam he was setting in the upright position. The hatch opening had a generator installed in the space and only allowed him very small access to attempt to escape. He was able to reach behind himself, over and above, and grab the drip ledge with his left arm and push his feet against a wall in the subfloor area to force his head down into his chest, trying to clear it from the beam it was trapped behind. After a long struggle, he gave it everything he had, and in doing so, his body became freed from the boat, but his left shoulder popped out of the socket from the awkward position and force of pulling. He crushed 3 vertebrae in his neck: C5, C6, and C7. He was able to rush himself to the emergency room, and they performed a sonogram on his shoulder, finding the labrum was torn. The bicep muscle was detached from the shoulder, and surgery was needed. They released him from the hospital, where his employer contacted workers' comp. They insisted against the surgeon's request and tried physical therapy until November 14, 2024. After endless pain and suffering, or continuing to try to work and not fall behind in life, they finally approved shoulder surgery, which was performed on November 15. The outcome of the surgery was slight improvement, but the pain would not stop. Billy was placed on complete off-duty because of the surgery. After multiple trips back to the surgeon, they put in a request to see a spine surgeon, who performed an MRI on his cervical spine and found three crushed vertebrae. In desperate need of surgery, and of course, this wasn’t the news workers' comp was looking for, so they immediately said the doctor was no longer in-network. They then scheduled another appointment a month later for another doctor who pulled the results of the MRI and had the same outcome: surgery was necessary immediately. Workers' comp then said they needed a second opinion. They sent him to another specialist, Dr. West, who had the same outcome. They finally granted permission for the surgery. Surgery was performed Friday at Springhill Memorial Center in Mobile, Alabama. The outcome of the surgery has left Billy paralyzed from the waist down. Billy is still in the hospital at Spring Hill Medical Center in ICU, where they have done now 5 MRIs, starting at the brain and going to the bottom, looking for a way to reverse the surgery outcome. But with no luck so far. Billy is a very strong fighter, and he is in good spirits, trying to keep his sanity. But he is going to need a miracle at this point. If he could have afforded health insurance, this could have been approved and treated much faster and might not have had this outcome, but we are not giving up and will continue to fight for answers and solutions. Billy is not one to ask for help and has always done for anyone he possibly can, even when he couldn’t afford to do so. He has helped so many people in his life, but he’s in desperate need himself this time. If you can’t find it in your heart to help, he asks if you can at least send a prayer because at this point, he needs a miracle. Thank you in advance, and God bless. Walked in for an outpatient surgery. 9 days ago and still in ICU with no signs of going home and still can’t walk.
