Many of you know Bill Buhler as a loving father, husband, and a great teacher. I know he has made an impact on so many lives including the entire town of Alamogordo, New Mexico. After teaching for thirty-one years, he chose to retire this year, believing that he would finally get some time to rest.
If you haven't heard yet, I am taking the time to inform you of my family's current situation. My dad hadn't been feeling well lately, so he went to the hospital to have tests done on Friday. Saturday we were informed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer. The cancer has spread from his colon, to his liver, and to his lungs. It's crazy how one phone call can turn your world upside down. How a six letter word can bring you to your knees. Did they just say cancer? Surely I will wake up from this nightmare. Stage IV, chemo immediately. No. I'm not strong enough for this. I'm 24. I need my dad. Be strong Ali, he needs you. But I can't breathe. I'm on my way. I need my dad. I don't understand. The first man I ever loved. My hero. My role model. My teacher. Your teacher. My dad. I need to be strong. But it hurts so bad. He needs me as much as I need him. Stand up. Pull yourself together. Deep breaths. I love you, Dad.
This fund is intended to help offset what will turn out to be a very costly battle. If you didn't know teacher salaries aren't the highest. When I spoke to my father about making this page, I will admit he wasn't thrilled. He is a private and strong man and doesn't want to show weakness. Yet here I am attempting to alleviate a major stress that everyone is trying to keep quiet. I am not embarrassed to ask for help because deep down I know we need it. We have currently gathered as a family and are planning a trip to Houston for a consultation with MD Anderson Cancer Center. Your donations, thoughts, and prayers are greatly appreciated. I know this has been really long and I thank anyone that has taken the time to read it. Though our future may be uncertain, we are going to stand together for the fight of our lives.
