On Saturday, April 24th, Billy Roberts was seriously injured in a dirt bike accident while practicing at MX Acres in Fredonia, PA. Immediately following the crash he was unable to breathe and was in obvious distress, so the ambulance decided to call in Life Flight. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby field and air lifted to Youngstown, as that was the nearest trauma center. Once in the ER, it was determined he suffered two broken ribs, a fractured right wrist, a broken T7 vertebrae in his spine along with multiple fractures in the T4 through T9 vertebrae. He was admitted to the Ortho Trauma floor and surgery was performed on Monday, April 26th to insert Titanium rods and screws in his back. It's a miracle that he has movement in all extremities after this violent crash. The hope is to have him home this weekend (5/1) where he will be enduring in home physical therapy over the next three months. Getting him up and moving is the immediate goal, so that the risk of blood clots and pneumonia will be lessened.
Billy is going to need help through this critical time in his life. The financial burden is going to be massive, not only to him personally, but to the business he has so passionately built. As most small business owners struggle with, Billy does not have health insurance. Anyone that knows Billy, understands his drive for racing and the fabrication he crafts. It was NOT easy to convince him that people care about him and want to help. He is proud and does not ask for help, but fully understands the situation that he is in. If there is one thing I've learned over the last several years, it's that the racing community takes care of their own! We've got one of our own that needs help and dammit we need to spread the word. Thank You for considering to donate.
