Billy Mac McElhanon Funeral Service

Billy Mac McElhanon was my dad.  Born in Spring Hill Louisiana on 12/05/1944 and passed away on Monday 5/8/2017 of End Stage Lung disease caused by Asbestos.  Billy Mac leaves behind his Wife Maureen of 47 years, his son Billy, and his three daughters Deva, Amanda, and me, Jenny.  No matter how prepeared we think we are for death and all that comes with it; we're really not.  Billy Mac started life out in the U.S. Navy at 17 years old. Billy worked as a boiler tender in the ships firerooms of Destroyers (Topeka and Boyd).  After two tours in Vietnam and nearly 10 years active duty, he was on "Shore Patrol Duty" down in Texas, he was so proud of his service, his flag and the USA.  I think if people were to describe Billy Mac it would notably be, "The hard headed, redneck hillbilly with the thick southern accent...lives up the street...who would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it more". Billy Mac will be missed beyond measure. To honor this man and all hes done throughout his worldly life; his selfless acts of love, humanity, kindness, and generosity is a task too complex to explain.  It seems that everyone knew Billy Mac.  As a long time Plainville resident he was still so sincere and authentic to his southern roots.  Some of the crazy sayings Billy Mac would devise were "Webster's Dictionary worthy".  Dad was witty at times, rediculous at times, boundless at times and totally unrealistic at times.  I think some people people appreciated that eccentric side of him.  I guess the point of this whole run-on essay is that I/we need help honoring such an affectionate and gentle yet, fierce and brave man. To all of those people whos lives he touched, to all of those people who he loved and who loved him in return, and to all of those people who maybe never got to meet this extrodinary man I ask with all sincerity and affection for help in making Billy Mac McElhanon's memorial on Monday May 15th 2017 something we will ALL NEVER FORGET!  I count my blessings everyday knowing I was loved by him. RIP Daddy.
