On May 22, Bill had a fall at home and was instantly unable to move from the neck down. He was flown via helicopter to the Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster, CA where he was admitted to the ICU. MRI, CT scan and X-rays showed bruising to the spinal column in his neck and a fractured vertebrae, a serious and traumatic spinal injury which explained his paralysis. These scans also revealed a very large and likely cancerous mass on his right kidney. He immediately underwent neck surgery to put spacers in between the C4, C5 and C6 vertebrae. After recovering from the surgery, he was transferred to Encompass Health and Rehabilitation Hospital in Bakersfield, CA where he was rehabilitating until his recent transfer to the Veteran’s Hospital in La Jolla, CA. There he is receiving the upmost care and support as he continues rehabilitation for a minimum of three months and possibly longer. Because the doctors believe the tumor on his kidney to be slow growing, he will wait to undergo a surgery to remove the kidney with mass, closer to his discharge date. As you can imagine, this has been a life-altering event. Due to the unknown future, Bill and his wife Cindy made the very difficult decision to rehome their three pets. Cindy has been traveling back and forth from home to be with Billy. Many have asked how they can lend support financially, so his family has created this Go Fund Me. This will help with all the costs that come with this kind of major medical emergency, as well as travel and lodging expenses for Cindy. We thank you for your support and prayers as we navigate this unexpected journey. God Bless you.
