Hi, My name is Elaine Hall. My best friend for almost 20 years is Samantha Clay. She is 27 years old. Samantha has SLE Lupus and is in stage 4 kidney failure. She goes to dialysis every other day of the week. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that affects all organs. Since being diagnosed with Kidney Failure her health has been up and down but mostly down. Things took a turn for the worst the week of thanksgiving when Sam got the flu. She lives alone so no one knew just how sick she was. The flu led to her getting a staph infection that is called Staph Scalded Syndrome. Thursday, December 1st of 2022 the ambulance was called by her neighbor and Grandmother. Sam is now in ICU. She is very, very sick. Staph scalded syndrome causes skin peeling, and blisters among other things. She was almost unrecognizable when I arrived at the ER Thursday that is how bad it was and still is. A lot of swelling, blisters, and open wounds on her face, back, and body. Things got bad Saturday night when she started hallucinating due to all the different pain medications. She didn't where she was. Thankfully I was allowed to stay overnight in ICU which is typically not allowed but it took me and the nurse to keep her in bed. Finally, because she was a threat to herself they sedated her. Doctors are saying we have to take things day by day and no time frame for recovery has been given. The plan is to send her to charlotte and she will most likely need the dermatologist to do surgery on her skin. Sam lives alone and has two cats one of which is not fixed and they have ruined her furniture. She loves these cats but we need to get her cat Socks fixed so he will stop spraying. She is going to need new furniture. A couch, love seat, and a mattress. Her mattress is completely ruined and because Sam has arthritis in all of her bones she needs a good firm mattress a cheap one will not suffice. I am asking for donations to help get her cat Socks fixed and also to help with the purchase of new furniture. Any leftover funds will be used to help pay her bills while she is in the hospital. She gets a disability check but it is often not enough to cover all her bills and when she recovers I do not want her to come back with her bills behind or an eviction notice.
