Dear friends and family,
Due to a series of unfortunate events, our 80-year-old dad, the much beloved track coach Bill Johnson, has to move out of his family home of 35 years. If you know our dad, you can imagine how difficult this impending change is for him. He really loves his home nestled amongst the redwood trees and birds and is not looking forward to being uprooted at this stage of life.
Adding to the stress of having to move (and rely on others for the physical labor), our dad is facing great financial hardship. You may not know it, but coaching track doesn’t pay much, and he finds himself without any savings or retirement. Simply moving out of the house will require an outlay of funds he doesn’t have—renting a dumpster, perhaps a storage unit, a moving truck—not to mention finding a place to rent and the costs associated with that.
Because of this, we are reaching out. If you know our dad—maybe he has coached you, or coached someone you love, or perhaps you have just had the pleasure of talking track or birds or nature with him—please consider donating to Bill’s Big Move. A donation of any size is deeply appreciated and will go to get our dad set up in his new home (once we find one). This includes a security deposit, hopefully a few months’ rent, setting up utilities, filling his fridge and freezer, and getting anything else he may need to make his new place feel like a home he can be happy in.
Please share with any former teammates, fellow coaches, and anyone else who may have fond feelings for our pops! Thank you so much!
