Before you read on, please know.. no contribution amount is too small. I’m not comfortable asking for help, but at the same time, I know I’m surrounded by kind, loving people who don’t mind helping out if they can.
Here’s what’s going on:
Back in the late summer of 2019, I was on a walk through my neighborhood. I was feeling great at the two-mile mark, so I began to walk faster with more energy. All was going well until krchkkkk… something happened to my right hip. I wasn’t immobilized, it felt like something was strained, but I thought it was a muscular ‘thing,’ and I would be ok. Maybe rest and self-rehab would do the trick.
Almost a year and a half later, I was still in a lot of pain, and wasn’t able to walk a
block, much less two miles.
I finally went to a physical therapist last month. She sent me to an orthopedic doctor, because she thought I may have torn cartilage in my hip joint. The orthopedic doctor took X-rays, and said I have very little cartilage left in the joint. So - I’m having hip replacement surgery on June 28, three days after my birthday. :)
At the same time, my right shoulder - my guitar-playing shoulder - has been bothering me for several months. I went to the same physical therapist who said she thought I should see a shoulder specialist. That doctor ordered X-rays, and he told me I have bone spurs. An MRI has been ordered to see what damage the spurs may have caused to my rotator cuff and surrounding soft tissue.
At the same time, I am having a sonogram performed on both legs to check for clots which may be there causing me trouble.
I don’t know the total cost of all of these procedures. I’ve been told the hip replacement surgery, alone, will be $6500.
I’m not sure about the MRI or sonograms, along with the accompanying charges for physical therapy, orthopedic office and follow-up visits.
Also, I don’t have sick days or vacation days at Senseney, because I don’t teach full time… that would require 80 half-hour
lessons per week. :) To cover my time away from work, which might be two weeks, I’ll need about $625.
My deductible on my health insurance is $3000, and I haven’t met any of that yet.
Needless to say, any gift amount will be appreciated. I know many of us are going through rough times because of Covid. I understand. But if you can afford to contribute a couple of dollars, I will be forever grateful.
