Over the past several months friends and family have been asking what he still needs or how they can help. There is always one thing on my mind - his chair.
It was no ordinary chair. I was custom made for him. It fit his tall height. It helped with his back spasms. It helped him to stand when his legs were giving him problems. It reclines completely flat for comfy sleep. It provided me and my brothers peace of mind. Sadly, he only had the chair for 6 months before the flood came through. The day we drove up to the house for the demolition we watched as it was dropped into the large dumpster. It knocked the wind out of him. I was heartbroken.
I have been torn about posting for help. My brothers and I see it as a necessity for him to live without pain. He sees it as a luxury. He said, "maybe I wasn't meant to have it." I wrote a letter to the company explaining the situation. I asked if there was anything they could do. I was unsuccessful.
So, here we are. The chair takes a few months to build. I'd love to give him a giant surprise for his fresh start. Any support would mean more than you can imagine. I am as uncomfortable asking for help as he is, but he's a good dad and we would do anything for him.
Through all the difficult choices we've had to make the past few months, I never fail to mention to him that there are lots of people that love him.
