You may have heard that on October 7, 2019 North Beach Community TV had a break-in and was robbed
of most of our video production equipment. The break-in was investigated by local law enforcement but none of our equipment has been recovered. Thankfully, we were insured and were able to recoup some of our losses, but there is still a large gap between what was replaced by the insurance company and what was stolen.
North Beach Community TV is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been serving the North Beach community since 1982. Shannon and I have been a part of this wonderful organization for nearly 15 years. North Beach Community TV has been broadcasting city council meetings since our inception and have recorded and broadcast many local events. Over the years, we have created hundreds of hours of original programming and also provided training for Video Production and Broadcast Journalism for local students.
We depend heavily on the generosity of our local community to support the TV station, our primary source of funding is private donations, but in recent times donations have dropped off. While we have been able to maintain enough income to support our day to day operations it has been a steep challenge to save enough to replace needed equipment or have the funds to make needed upgrades to our building.
We are currently working to raise enough money to replace the front entry door that was damaged in the break-in, install a substantial security system, and purchase the necessary support equipment that was not replaced by insurance, as well as do some maintenance on our volunteer built building.
Prior to the break-in we had plans to create a web portal to broadcast local news and events in addition to our broadcast on cable channel 68. This web portal would allow us to better serve our community by providing news, information and entertainment to all residents of our community and to reach those residents and tourists that reside across the country. The web portal will give us the ability to broadcast local news and events throughout the nation and attract greater interest in the activities and events of our community. This portal will also give us the ability create a revenue stream, support our growth, and sustain our operations.
We are currently seeking donations to help us recoup our losses, renovate our studio, and move forward with our plans for a web portal to increase our viewership. Your donation will help build a sustainable non-profit 501c3 organization that will serve our community as it grows to full maturity. All donations are tax deductible. Your donation is greatly appreciated and we hope you will support our efforts to make Ocean Shores and the North Beach community a better place to live.
