Bill Swinehart's Wish to Return Home ❤
Donation protected
On May 28, 2020, my dad, Bill Swinehart, was admitted to the hospital with a broken back in three places. He blacked out and wasn't sure why or how he fell. An MRI revealed his brain was full of over 100 tumours and he was given an extremely short timeline. Doctors recommended he be placed in Hospice immediately and stated that sadly, radiation would be pointless.
Although confused and in dire pain, my dad was adamant that he wanted to fight and go through the radiation treatments. We honoured his wishes - Some days he was unable to complete the treatments, as lying on the radiation table was too hard on his broken back. Although he was scheduled 15 treatments, it took a month to complete his treatments. After his last treatment was finally complete, he was to be discharged from the hospital. We were again told that Hospice would be the best choice, as he had a very short time and that we would be able to be at his side all day, everyday.
Again, my father was adamant that he wanted to fight. So again, we honoured his wishes. He was admitted to a rehabilitation facility for physiotherapy, though the physician reported that my Dad was being admitted for end-of-life care.....Fast forward 1 month, my Dad continually surpasses every goal and is surprising everyone, nurses, therapists, and physicians included. He has been asking to go home everyday since he arrived to the rehabilitation facility. His oncologist scheduled a MRI of the brain, and results just came back that the radiation was highly effective! My Dad's wish is to now go home, continue with chemotherapy, however, he is still somewhat confused and is considered a fall risk. In order to be discharged to return home, he currently requires 24 hour/7 day a week care (we are hoping this may change). Unfortunately, he is only covered for 40-50 hours of home health care. We have organized for some family/friends to help, however, we still require to hire additional support in order for my Dad to be at home. My father does not know about this campaign and certainly would not approve, as he has never been the type to ask for help, and neither am I, to be honest. However, I have had numerous people recommended the GoFundMe platform for my Dad's benefit.
The funds of this campaign are to assist in financing a portion of the home health care not covered by my Dad's insurance.
Any support is beyond appreciated.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Bill Swinehart & Family
