When the rescuer becomes the patient.
As a firefighter you train for countless hours learning all about the latest equipment and rescue techniques to help another person on the worst day of their life. Bill spent 20 years helping others and On Monday May 8th 2017, Bill Shaw our volunteer fire chief became the patient. Bill was involved in a serious accident at his full time job. The skid-steer mower he was operating left the road and traveled 100 feet down an embankment. A fellow coworker heard his cries for help. Bill was taken by Air Ambulance to Sutter Roseville Hospital in critical condition where his family rushed to meet him. When Bill arrived at the hospital he was found to have 3 broken ribs, a collapsed lung and sever injuries to his right leg and foot. He was taken into emergency surgery and his wife Tina was informed shortly after that the lower portion of his leg would need to be amputated.
After the surgery Bill was placed on a ventilator and heavily sedated for several days. He has a lengthy recovery in front of him and we are asking for donations to help his family with expenses. Everyone who knows Bills will attest to the fact that he is a fighter and strong willed. He will not let even the loss of his limb keep him from his passion of firefighting and community service. I know that as a community we can come together to help with these expenses, and I thank everyone for anything that you can contribute including prayers for him and his family.
Thank you.
