I Retired From MSHA in March of 2022 and have since undergone many medical challenges. February 4th of 2020 I had to have back surgery
then hip surgery due to problems after back surgery. This left me only mobile with the use of crutches. In December of 2022 I felt sick and even with many trips to the Doctor office no one could seem to figure out what was wrong. I continued to battle this sickness as it got worse through Jan, Feb. and March. In late April I was having extreme pain on the right side of my chest my wife Glennell took me to Mercy Regional medical ER witch they had found I had a saddle polumary adema. They discovered he had blood clots all over my body and bleeding in his lungs. He was medi vac to Colorado Springs. They were able to get his bleeding and blood clots under control. After a battery of testing and over a month in the hospital, He was diagnosed with MDS (Mylodedysplastic Syndrome). Doctors started him on blood transfusions right away, however there was no evidence progress in his Blood counts and he was diagnosed with ALS (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Now I After doing some research and help from the doctors was able to find a Specialist in Aurora CO that speaclizes in treatment of ALS in June. Glennell and I started traveling back and forth to Denver to receive testing and treatment and to determine a course of treatment. I started chemo both orally and intravenously. I had to fight back two three times to Denver for life saving treatments due to complications. In September I received the great news that the leukemia was responding well to the chemo and he was ready for a stem sell transplant. They were able to locate a donor out of Germany and the donor agreed to go throught the process of stem cell transplant to help me. I received the stem cell Transplant on October the 5th. Now I have to spend a total of 30 days as a inpatient in the Aurora Colorado at the arhwarts medical cancer center and then 100 days of outpatient. before I can be cleared to go home. I was re admitted to the hospital on October 26th with complications and remains in the hospital now.
