Bill Quay Primary qualifies for World Championship

The story so far...

At Bill Quay Primary School our children are passionate about STEM with a particular emphasis on coding and robotics. For two years running teams from Year 4, 5 and 6 have competed locally and qualified to the national VEX IQ competition.... and have now qualified for the VEX IQ World Competition in Dallas, Texas at the beginning of May. A magnificent achievement for all children involved!

We hope to raise funds to send team Bill Quay to the VEX IQ World Championships in Dallas, Texas. Any additional funding raised will be ploughed directly into our Community STEM Shed at school where our children will share their skills and experiences with their school and the wider community.

VEX Robotics is an international program that provides children with exciting, open-ended robotics challenges that enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centred learning. This allows them to compete in a game-based engineering challenge competition which fosters student development in teamwork, critical thinking, project management and communication skills. It also prepares the children to become the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

Our robotics journey with VEX IQ has been short, but meteoric!

In both 2022 and 2023, team Bill Quay won Judge's Awards for Sportsmanship by showing respect and admiration to the volunteers and other teams at the VEX competitions. They were recognised for being courteous, helpful and respectful to everyone at the event. The team were described by officials as "a model for all to follow as team members exemplify the spirit of friendly collaboration and cooperation." This year team Bill Quay also won a Judge's Award for Creativity by "demonstrating a highly creative engineering process and methodology and showing the creative ambitious approach to gameplay".

Our children have worked tirelessly in school, after school and during their lunchtimes to work as a team and achieve this fantastic opportunity but we need help to get them there!
