Bill Needs Help Recovering from Tragic Fire

Donation protected
To all the people whom Bill Taff has helped over the years and to anyone who would like to help a generous, creative person:

My favorite* uncle, Bill Taff, lost his house in Woodbury CT to a terrible fire two nights ago. My uncles and mother all grew up in that house beginning in the 40's and eventually it became Uncle Bill's home. (Bill's the one between my mother and grandmother)

When he returned home late Tuesday night smoke was billowing out of the house. Bill was able to rescue his cat only, nothing else, before the house erupted in flames. Firemen from surrounding towns battled with the blaze through very cold temperatures until early morning.

Unfortunately the house is a complete loss. Every personal item is burned --photos, tools, clothes, household items—everything! You can imagine Bill’s shock and sadness.

The fire began while he was out shopping for groceries for an elderly shut-in whose house he had helped to make livable.  Ironically, Bill, who has given much to the community over the years, is now the one needing help.

Donations are welcome in the form of services or cash.

·         Service help demolishing and removing debris
·         Cash for near term basic necessities, a temporary place to live
·        Funds for taxes
·         Funds for prefab or modular house

My uncles Dave and Jim; my mother Parmalee; and my Aunt Carolyn, widow of my Uncle Rick, are helping with immediate needs and working on long-term solutions.

It would be so wonderful if the beginnings of a modest house could be mustered from this tragedy. Unfortunately there was no insurance on the structure and there are  taxes that need to be caught up. For Bill, the fire was the last straw during the rough 2020.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Let’s bring some joy into Bill’s life.

*Everyone should have a fun uncle, and Bill is that! I remember riding sheep with my feet sticking out and Uncle Bill holding onto me. Oh, and the time the whole family had to help herd fat, strong, stubborn pigs by putting a bucket over their snouts and pushing them backwards into the pen.

With hope, Whitney Campbell
