I am fund raising on behalf of my brother in law, Bill Morris and my younger sister, Carol. Bill suffered from extreme genetic Essential Tremors, which greatly inhibited his ability to write, feed himself, shave, etc. In 2017, he underwent a Gamma Knife surgery, which seemed to help at first. In February 2020, he began having speech and mobility issues, which got progressively worse. In June 2020, he was hospitalized and diagnosed with Cerebral Edema and Radiation Induced Necrosis of the Brain. It was discovered that he was among the 1% of people who have severe side effects from the 2017 surgery. Carol has pulled out all the stops to research and reach out to doctors for help. A recent high risk drug therapy failed. They have been travelling from their small town in northern California to San Francisco (UCSF) for treatments. It was recommended that they try Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which is a last hope. They will be away from home for 1-2 months in Chico, CA, during the initial phase. Bill spends 6 hours a day in the oxygen chamber. Bill said they show movies while in the chamber, which he shares with 4 other patients. He told Carol they showed Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Lol! If this provides good results, there's a possibility of getting a home unit, which is costly. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Insurance only covers 50% of the expensive treatments, with no coverage for travel expenses. Bill was forced to retire due to his declining health, so their long range financial plans have made a big detour. Carol and Bill were high school sweethearts and have a wonderful marriage of 42 years. They have 3 lovely adult children and 4 adored grandchildren. Bill is my age, 64, and the most special and vibrant man. I'm holding out extreme hope that this treatment will give him the ability to enjoy his life and his family. I deeply appreciate any help you can offer.
Thank you in blessings.
