Dear friends and warm-hearted,

I come to you today with a heavy heart, hoping you might find it in yours to support our 88-year-old dear friend, Bill, who is going through one of the most challenging chapters in his life. He is not only facing the gravity of severe health issues but also the immense financial strain that accompanies them.

Bill's journey has been marked by resilience and courage. In 1978, after suffering his first stroke, he faced a devastating loss due to his illness —terminated without a full payout from the company that once valued and held him in high regard. Undeterred, he relocated to what Bill called a "New Land," seeking a fresh new start and a brighter future. Due to his health, he didn't find employment until 1981. For 19 years, his tenacity prevailed, and life treated him kindly—until 2001. Just as Bill was about to enjoy a well-deserved retirement, fate dealt him another harsh blow with a second stroke. The company terminated his contract less than a year before retirement, dashing his hopes for his pension.

Bill has faced his terminations with unwavering strength and grace. He has never uttered a complaint about his terminations. His quiet resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to his character, going through life's obstacles with dignity and hope, just like today. Over the years, Bill has bravely faced multiple health challenges. He has endured eight stent placements for his heart 20 years ago, an open-heart triple bypass three years ago, and countless surgeries throughout the years. He struggles with heart problems, lung and kidney issues, vertigo, a debilitating balance disorder, and, most recently, skin cancer on his leg, shoulder and head.

With 40 years of multimodality that involved complex medical care and surgeries with medical specialists, the mounting medical bills have far exceeded what his insurance covered. His savings have dwindled to A$2,000. Despite these daunting challenges, Bill faces each day with incredible dignity and strength, inspiring all who know him. As I am writing this, he is still in a rehabilitation facility, courageously taking one painful step at a time forward.
