Bill Cantler's recovery

Donation protected
Dear all, my family and I are reaching out on behalf of my aunt, Ruthann Graniero and her husband Bill Cantler.  Bill had a brain aneurysm sometime on the afternoon of Sunday, May 12th.   Ruthann came home and found him breathing but unresponsive so called the paramedics, who also could not wake him. They took him to Frederick Memorial and then was transferred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He had bleeding within the brain (not in just one spot as sometimes found). Several tests, surgeries, IV's and lines later the doctors determined two things: 1. it was an Arteriovenous Malformation, which is an abnormal connection between the arteries and the blood vessel (which sounds like it can be common in people but might never know it), and 2. the abnormality weakened the blood vessel walls and burst (aneurysm).

The doctors were able to put a drain in his brain to relieve the fluid and pressure as he was in a "very critical" state. Later, they went in intravenously and said the malformation was larger than expected, but fixed the aneurysm/vessel with glue. It was determined to fix the malformation later after he's healed from this part.

A few days after he was admitted to the hospital, he became active, responding by shaking his head, wiggling toes and squeezing hands, just 2 hours after surgery.

Bill has been moved to a regular room and is scheduled to be moved to a rehab facility by the end of this week.  He is expected to be there for 2-4 weeks.  He continues to have memory loss and it’s the hope of the physicians he will regain full memory within the next 3 to 6 months.

Bill’s recovery is going to be long and hard, but with prayers, perseverance, determination and hard work, we’re confident he’ll be back to his own self by the end of the year.

Bill is very fortunate to have access to some of the best medical care in the state. Insurance covers a lot, but with co-pays, medicines, and other unforeseen expenses, the medical bills will pile up.  We’ve set-up this “Go Fund Me” page to help lift the financial burden.  My family is appreciative of all the love and encouragement so far, and we appreciate your continued support and are truly thankful.
