Hey, Everyone – my name is Andrew Derry and I'm the proud papa of a happy, spunky dog named Bilbo Waggins. Bilbo has three legs, high spirits, and loves having adventures. He has the goofiest smile, and he’s always down for an adventure (hence his name). He also suffers from infrequent seizures that are usually not severe and managed with medication. Until Friday, April 26th, when things changed.
On that night, I was startled awake at 12:30 AM to hear Bilbo sprinting, a frantic last-ditch effort for him to run away from his seizure. He collapsed on the dining room floor and began having a cluster seizure, which can be very dangerous if attention isn’t given. I didn't realize that's what it was. I thought he had recovered like he normally does, but then he had two more bouts. Alarmed and scared, I took him to the emergency vet where he had two more seizures before the IV medicine drip began to kick in. He had to stay for multiple days, and I was beside myself that I was going to lose him.
My boy means the world to me. He has seen me through a very challenging period of my life. He's part of my immediate family. He gets me out of the house to go on walks; he lifts up my mental health when I'm struggling. He is my biggest fan and ally. He is my heart, walking around outside of my chest. I don't know what I would do without him.
Bilbo has been doing well since that fateful Friday. His medication has been bumped up and after some understandable apprehension following the emergency vet visit, he’s back to his old self. The medical procedures to stop the seizures and save his life have had a significant financial impact, but I had to do everything I could to help my boy. I know there are a lot of different causes out there that have need - I appreciate you considering donating to ours.
And if you aren't able to donate at this time, if you wouldn't mind passing this along, that would be wonderful. Thank you in advance from me and Bilbo for any help you can provide.
PS Bilbo says, Arwooof! while he's wagging his tail and giving you the goofiest grin.
