Biking accident puts Mike Scheske in the ICU!
Donation protected
Thanks go out to all of you who donated. On Oct 29th Mike was discharged from Kelowna General Hospital and is awaiting transition to a Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation residence. Mike has decided to donate all funds raised in this campaign to the Kelowna Hospital Foundation. Mike and his family are very grateful for all of your donations and they are also very grateful for the excellent care Mike received at KGH.
Our friend Mike Scheske was involved in a horrendous bicycling accident. Some of you may know Mike as a nationally ranked amateur athlete who consistently posted impressive times in triathlons, bike races, long distance runs, and other events. Some of you may know him as an engineer. Some will know him as a fraternity brother. Others will know Mike from his time as a teacher at McGee Secondary in Kerrisdale. And still others will know him as an academic tutor. And some of you will just know him as a dear friend.

On June 26th, Mike was riding his bike when he was involved in a cycling accident. An artery in his arm was severed but fortunately the vascular surgeon was able to save his life by quickly addressing that injury. However, while the immediacy of that severed artery was addressed, his list of other injuries is extensive: Some small bones in his neck were broken along with 10 of his ribs and other bones. He also has nerve damage and a serious brain injury. He is currently in a coma at the KGH ICU and unable to have visitors due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Mike's always been someone who pushed himself to improve, persisting until achieving his goals, and we're hoping this attitude will help him fight through the long road to recovery. Mike was never one to ask for help in the past and given he's currently in a coma, he's not asking for help now, either. But, those of us who care about him know he'll need a lot of support and we are starting this campaign to address some of the financial burden that his terrible injuries will impose on Mike. Given the severity of his injuries, there is no way he'll be able to work any time soon and your donations will go a long way to helping him make it through the financial component of his road to recovery.
