WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
Your donations allow us to manufacture and donate over 1500 reusable face shields to hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities across the country. These face shields help protect our medical professionals from contracting Covid-19 and are designed and manufactured in the Boston area.
THE FULL STORY
Our friend Kevin's father was diagnosed with Covid-19 in March. He was put on oxygen and recovered but one of his housemates, Michelle, was put on a ventilator and passed away.
Meanwhile Kevin's company, Brown Innovations, which manufactures custom audio speakers, closed due to the Covid-19 shutdown. Kevin learned about the desperate need for PPE in hospitals and facilities across the country and recognized that his design and manufacturing expertise could make a difference. On March 23 he created a face shield prototype and soon afterward his family began making the masks.
Kevin gave away these face shields to health care workers in the community. Word spread and requests started coming in from more locations in need of the PPE so he scaled operations, brought his employees back to work, hired out of work restaurant employees from his friend's local restaurant chain and upgraded the shields so they would be reusable and last much longer. His friend Karen also organized nearly 100 volunteers from the local community to assist in the assembly process so they have ramped up capacity.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to allow Kevin to continue donating face shields. He has begun charging larger institutions in order to cover the cost of materials, but smaller institutions such as nursing homes are overlooked in the worldwide demand for PPE where even 10 face shields can make a huge difference. This fundraiser will supply enough materials to donate over 1500 reusable face shields to dozens of nursing homes and smaller care facilities.
