Don't Let Big Lar Fight Alone!

Donation protected
On January 30th of this year, my father Larry Robinson was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Throughout his battle with cancer, Larry’s family and friends, his Home Team, have given him lots of love, hope and prayers. Our slogan during this fight has been “Together we will win!”

Larry is a 62-year-old husband, a father of two, and a grandfather of four beautiful grandchildren that he absolutely adores.  He lives for his grandkids and is a staple of their busy everyday lives. They are involved is so many activities that it’s nearly impossible to keep up – except for Larry. Their grandfather, “Big Lar,” has never missed any of his kids’ or grandkids’ activities, whether it was a concert, a graduation, a sporting event, an honor society induction, or a dance recital. It didn’t matter whether it was right up the road or three hours away, he was in the stands cheering them on. It has only been since his recent sickness that he has missed these events. He hates the fact that he can’t be there so his family has done their best to bring the sporting events to him via Facetime.  He would give anything to get back in the stands to cheer his grandkids on.

Big Lar has been through his initial round of chemo, and 2 rounds of consolidation chemo. Throughout this battle he has been the brave and courageous. Through it all, he has remained the same funny, loving, caring, compassionate, and upbeat man that we all know and love. His positivity is amazing; somehow he manages to always put a smile on our faces every day.

The second round of chemo that he received at the end of May really took a toll on his body. On June 7th Larry started getting fevers, some of which were very high. These fevers continued to fluctuate for weeks. He lost his appetite and he became very weak. Larry fought back, and with the help of his doctors became strong enough to go home. The very next day, his fever spiked again, and he was admitted back into the hospital.

This time, Larry was transferred from St. Luke’s to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The medical staff there was amazing. They gave us hope and encouragement during the of worst times. The doctors and nurses were very supportive and they are there for us whenever we have needed them. Our Home Team has never been stronger.

Recently, Larry was given the option of getting more chemo which he might not make it through, or to go home and enjoy his family and friends while receiving care from Hospice. On August 9th he took the 2 hour ride down the Thruway home and is ready for his next journey.

Despite Larry’s progress and the incredible support of our community, my parent’s bills are piling up. With Mom out of work most days caring for my father, and the difficulty coordinating trips back and forth from Rochester, it’s becoming hard to keep up. Our family is doing everything we to help stem the tide of growing medical bills, but it isn’t enough. That is why I am setting up this Go Fund Me Page. Every penny donated will make sure Big Lar has all the accommodations he requires. Thank you in advance for any donation that you are able to make. Each one of them, no matter the dollar amount, will be appreciated all the same.
