Hello Friends of Kirk! (Wed Apr 9)
Kirk has MOVED! He can receive Visitors at:
Harbor Hospice House
11990 Kirby Dr
Houston, Texas 77045
"Room 14"
-- No limit on visitors
-- Visiting hours 24/7
-- Facility requests "Quiet, Please!" to respect other patients
Kirk is on Comfort Care now, which includes meds for pain, anxiety and much needed rest. His body is worn out, and he is now very groggy, sleepy, super confused. He is sleeping very soundly for hours. Otherwise, he's his happy, joking, smiley self. :)
You guys have been awesome in helping, and we have one more BIG PUSH in asking for your assistance on GoFundMe! We are in URGENT need, please, of Funeral and End-of-Life Care for Kirk, including his Cremation. Anything, even $10, would really help! Thank you and thanks to God for this incredible journey we've been blessed to share with him.
All best, Belinda and Lois

Dear Friends of Kirk! Hello!
(Mon Apr 7, 2025)
Kirk did well in his first day of Hospice care. Funny, happy, and a little dopey from medication. His big usual smile.

Dear friends of Kirk, hello! (Sun April 6, 2025)
Today's transition into Hospice went great for Kirk! There were some tears and also plenty of laughs. Kirk's meds were stopped.
A different Dr took Kirk's case, and said "No way! We're not cutting back on oxygen", which was the hard and terrifying part. Yay!
Kirk will now have true comfort care and can eat and drink all he wants, full oxygen, and will pass more naturally when his body is ready. His confusion will probably increase. We are SO relieved, and Kirk is accepting it all. He'll be moving to the Hospice facility in a day or three. We'll let you know! Thanks for everything. Praise God!

Dear beloved Friends of Kirk (Sat April 5th, 2025),
Sunday April 6th is the day that Kirk will move into Hospice care and, soon thereafter, step into his heavenly home with Jesus. Praise the Lord! Thank you for your prayers, friendship, and a lifetime of incredible memories filled with much love, tears, and sweet laughter. We look forward to our grand reunion in heaven one day. :)

Dear Friends of Kirk, Hello! (Fri. March 28, 2025)
Well, it's getting closer to the time Kirk will be going home to Jesus! He's fought so hard and his body is just giving out. He's walked a beautiful, faithful road, imperfectly, at times, but lived with his whole heart! We love him for it! He is a bright and shining star. ⭐
The family will be moving Kirk into Hospice the weekend of April 6th. If you'd like to see him one last time or two , PLEASE feel free to visit!
**We will be accepting visitors through 7 pm Saturday evening April 5th, at which point the family please requests no more visitation, for family and private time.
You have all been awesome and we appreciate so much your stories, your friendship and love for Kirk. We know he loves you all, and you have impacted his life tremendously.
Thank you, friends. Praise God for you, and for Kirk's messy and beautiful and precious life. He will be celebrating in heaven, made new and experiencing the fullness of God's perfect love. ✝️

❤️Dear Friends of Kirk, Hello! (Thur Mar 20)
It has been a while since I posted, I'm sorry about that - frankly, we're just a bit exhausted!
Kirk has been stable, steady, and in/out of confusion. Some days are really good, some days are really hard, and some days he's just sleeping and really tired.
Here's where things stand right now; it's a challenging discussion.
Please accept our love and prayers for those of you who love Kirk. You've all been so supportive. We're standing right with you.
The brain infection continues to get better, but, the other factors causing extreme confusion are still there. They won't get better. Kirk's oxygen needs are rising, and he can never go off oxygen without a liver transplant; which is the original reason for his hospitalization. Kirk is too sick to qualify for a liver transplant. His heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and other organ systems are failing.
We had hope, considering his recent improvements, but, sadly, Kirk will not survive long enough, nor be well enough to get the life-saving procedures he needs.
Through prayer, discussion, and family consensus, and with the Doctors' best advice, we will need to move forward with Hospice care in the near future, probably 2-3 weeks. It is expected that Kirk will pass quickly, and he will be perfectly comfortable through that - no more suffering. He believes in Jesus and eternal life in heaven. That's a great thing. :) We're so blessed for that.
If you'd like to visit Kirk, he's at Methodist Jones Tower LTAC (continuing care hospital), floor 8, room 819. Closest parking is Garage 7.
Thank you again for everything! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or messages for Kirk. You are all appreciated and loved. :) ❤️

Dear Friends of Kirk! (Mon. March 3, 2025)
WoW! WoW! WoW! AWESOME NEWS!
What a difference a MONTH in the hand of God, makes! :)
On Jan. 30, 2025, the family had decided that Kirk would not be able to recover, based on circumstances and Dr. advice at that time, and we were in the middle of moving him to Hospice and End-of-Life Care. NOT ANYMORE!
Kirk's brain infection is doing much better, with marked improvement in his confusion levels. He has moved to the LTAC UNIT (Long-Term Acute Care) at Methodist Medical Center (He will NOT be going to Katy). He will continue his ongoing oxygen therapy, increase physical and occupational therapy, and continue his long-term antibiotics for his brain infection. He will, of course, continue the uphill challenges for his liver, respiratory, heart and kidney illness which all all been so affected by his liver failure.
But this is terrific news! We're "getting him back", out of his confusion, slowly, but surely! He's making very positive steps.
Praise the Lord!
Thank you for all your prayers and support. :)

Friends of Kirk! Hello! (Mon Feb 24)
***INCREDIBLE NEWS!!!*** Praise God!
A HuGe WIN! The stronger antibiotic is working! Kirk's brain infection is shrinking, and he's getting better every day! WOW! WOW! WOW! :) And he's well enough to move, soon!
His oxygen needs are lower and MUCH better! His feeding tubes are out and he's eating lightly-pureed foods. He's remembering more and is "with us" , more lucid! Still confused but not as much! Plenty emotional, but, that's okay!
The way is now clearing for him to go to the Methodist LTAC Hospital, Long-Term Acute Care, in Katy. WOW! DOUBLE WIN!
More physical/occupational therapy, continuing Healing from Brain Infection, strengthening and improvement in many areas!
Please messenger me on FB for his location, if you'd like to visit!
Thank you all, and Thank God!

Hello Team Kirk! (Fri. Feb 21)
Great news! Kirk's doing better these last couple of days; feeding himself, restraints off, back to his good-natured self, a bit more aware, not so confused. He had a few really tough days and was highly confused, combative, cursing at everybody, super-high oxygen needs to keep breathing comfortably. That seems to be behind us... Please keep praying!
He's better able to receive visitors, now, though please know he's still battling his brain infection... He may be feisty or sleep the whole time! :)

Hello Team Kirk! (Fri. Feb 14)
Great news! Kirk successfully transitioned to the stronger antibiotic for his brain infection - in the ICU - to ensure his safety. That went well! Hooray, success! :) Praise God for that! Thank you for your prayers!
Update: His lungs are filling with fluid again, and he needs stronger oxygen levels to keep him breathing comfortably; he's at his highest needs in a very long time. He'll stay in the ICU for now. He needs another procedure to remove the fluid, but, he's not stable enough for that right now, so that's on standby and being monitored. Will you please pray for his lungs/oxygen and ongoing confusion? Thank you!
Also, please remember the $10 BLITZ CHALLENGE on GOFUNDME! Challenge your friends list, your office/workplace, your family to donate $10 each for Kirk Plazinich's cause! Thank you! We appreciate you! Thanks to EVERYONE who has generously donated!

Dear Friends of Kirk, hello! (Wed Feb 12)

He's stable and doing steady. In/out confusion from the brain infection. We'll see in a few days if he has continued shrinking of the brain lesions. Prayers, please!
We're hoping he'll move to a NEW long-term facility, soon, to allow him to continue the IV antibiotics for that, and have increases in his physical/occupational therapy! Yay!
He still recognizes friends and family!
We'll update you with anything new!
Kirk's mobile is broken and he cannot receive hospital calls. Please direct any calls, messages or texts to FB, or reply below, and we'll get back to you asap, and make sure Kirk gets the messages! Thanks again!

**HI DEAR FRIENDS!**
January 30, 2025 Thursday
Sadly, Kirk will not make it to the Liver Transplant we were hoping for him to get. It will soon be time to move on to his next home in heaven. He will soon be be transitioning into Hospice Care to make him comfortable at the end of his life. He is already receiving extra comfort care in the hospital as his condition has deteriorated.
He may need to leave the hospital. Hospice Care IS covered by insurance. The Nursing Home he needs to stay in (room and board), IS NOT covered. It will be out-of-pocket and could be $10,000's, depending upon how long he lives.
We Please need your continuing help!
*We also please need end-of-life assistance for his remains and memorial service after he passes away.
Thank you for your kindness, understanding, and prayers. We are so grateful for anything you can do!
Blessings to you and yours,
Lois, Belinda, and Kirk Plazinich

ORIGINAL STORY
SAT JUNE 39, 2024
**MIRACLE UPDATE! MIRACLE UPDATE!!!**
**KIRK WAS OFFICIALLY APPROVED FOR THE LIVER TRANSPLANT PROGRAM!!!**
After almost 3 weeks in Methodist Hospital this last round, Kirk FINALLY got the right team of doctors and specialists to correctly diagnose and set him up for proper treatment! He has lots of work to do and criteria to meet over the next 3 months or so, to prepare for his new liver, but there's hope and light at the end of the tunnel!!!
Over the course of the last year, he's been diagnosed with needing a heart transplant, then heart/liver, now liver only. There has been much confusion!
For the new Liver, He has an accountability team and he'll need to follow a very strict diet/fluids plan, attend counseling, exercise program, etc., and meet with his team of specialists regularly to ensure he remains a qualified candidate! HE CAN DO IT!
His symptoms of retaining huge amounts of fluids and constant breathing problems, with low oxygen levels are ongoing, which still cause debilitating daily symptoms... the usual exhaustion, inability to think clearly, extreme fatigue, speech/balance/ and movement problems, sleeping 16-20 hours day, etc. He's on multiple medications to keep his body working as good as possible. He can't go out and work right now, we're in a holding pattern financially, but there will be a day!
We please EARNESTLY need financial assistance if anyone can - Kirk's behind almost 3 months again. It's so hard to ask, but, please know, we're being accountable to rent, bills, food, meds and all the basics. A few more months to go! Thank you beyond words for your kindness and support, financially, emotionally, spiritually. We welcome your ongoing prayers and feel free to share! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! And thank you God!
HOSPITAL UPDATE! Tue JUNE 4, 2024
Kirk went to the Critical Care unit of Methodist Hospital on Tues morning. We'd be so SUPER SUPER SUPER grateful for your help with expenses and bills! We please need at least $7000 to get through the next 3 months. THank you!
He gained 32 lbs in about a week, and has excess fluid in his abdomen, chest, legs, etc. They've drawn 4.5 liters of fluid out so far. He's still struggling to breathe, even with oxygen. Groggy, slurred speech, not thinking clearly, hard to communicate, especially after he's been up a couple of hours, ie around noon these symptoms start and get progressively worse throughout each day. Falls, balance problems and trouble walking. Extremely low energy, exhaustion. They've said half his heart function is weak and half seems okay. He has 4 teams of doctors, including Cardiology, Liver, Kidney. Kidney numbers are good, but they don't know why he keeps retaining so much fluid - something with the liver not working properly. They just said they want to do a brain CT, make sure everything's okay there.
We earnestly need financial help to cover rent, electricity, food, gas, parking, bills for Kirk and Mom. Mom Lois is taking full-time care of Kirk and dog Roxy, and Kirk is hospitalized about every 3-4 weeks. She's understandably wiped out, but cheerfully wakes up every day to start again. Way to go, and THANK YOU so much, Mom!
Kirk is being a trooper, too, though he is battling depression and mood swings as he fights to make it through his physical symptoms every day. He's getting some help with that, too.
By noon each day, he's pretty much exhausted and takes multiple naps daily, probably about 16-18 hours of sleep daily, or more.
BIG CHEERS TO LOIS AND KIRK FOR FIGHTING THRU THIS!. ANY ENCOURAGEMENT IS WELCOMED!
**THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CONTINUED FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS, PRAYERS AND ENCOURAGEMENT. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!**
UPDATE! Kirk went into Methodist Hospital again with severe internal pain near his lungs, liver, gallbladder. That started Friday night Dec 15 and he was there until Mon Dec 18. They ran lots of tests and found no solution, but, he did get pain management and was on full-time oxygen for the weekend. His pain went from over level 10 for 36 hours, down to a 7-8 when he was sent home, so thankfully that was reduced. That pain is slowing down over the past few days, thank God.
#TEAMKIRKPLAZ update! This wonderful group of people has collected over $17,000 for Kirk's heart failure and journey to heart transplant. That is AMAZING! Thank you so much!!! Thanks to EVERYONE, Kirk was able to catch up on 4-months of rent, bills, food, necessities, and partially pay for some medications and oxygen. November rent was paid on time! Dec. rent was paid! SUCCESS!
Kirk is doing well, learning to manage his symptoms like trouble breathing and everything related to oxygen depletion and heart failure. We went to Mom's in the valley for Thanksgiving and shared some precious family time.
We please need another round of assistance if anyone on TEAM KIRK can rally for another round of giving, or... knows of a Church, Corporation, Business, or Organization which can help. We have some urgent needs and updates for Oxygen and Prescriptions, and are most grateful!
We know it can be done with some creative thinking and your big hearts!
---Kirk needs oxygen 24/7! An Inogen personal Oxygen Concentrator is the Dr. recommended product and costs about $4100 for the needed kit. That allows him to wear a portable device that he can carry over his shoulder. Oxygen in the regular air is then concentrated into the machine, allowing him to breathe. He's currently operating at about 79%-86% oxygen levels, and experiences swelling, balance issues, tremors, slurred speech, mental fogs, heart rate changes, extreme fatigue, and, of course, labored breathing. He has been using traditional hospital-type oxygen tanks, which are huge, awkward, very heavy, and keep him home-bound. They are also very expensive to refill and require
unreliable delivery services.
---Three of Kirk's breathing and heart medications cost over $4800 Month, including one which costs $100 Day. 2 for breathing, 1 for his heart. He can only get the much-needed meds intermittently, at best.
---Rent, bills, and living expenses for January are soon due.
Anything that anybody or any company can do will be immensely appreciated, and used for vital needs. Thanks, again, with all our hearts!!! Kirk, Belinda and family

ORIGINAL POST:
I'm Belinda, Kirk's sister. We're having a family emergency - Kirk's in heart failure - and his time on this side of heaven is limited until he gets a heart transplant. Our bright, generous and funny guy really needs your help! We're praying Kirk's beloved friends & family, even others unknown, can rally around him and give him a mind-boggling outpouring of love and assistance as he takes this journey. We need to urgently work on getting him through the next days and months of his life until that transplant comes through, which we are believing for - we trust God’s will. With all our hearts, Mom (Lois), Kirk, Morgan/Thomas, Brett/Cherish and I thank you for your considerations. You bless us beyond words.
Kirk, 55, has been diagnosed with later-stage heart failure, a stiffened heart that is no longer functioning properly (called HfpEF/ Heart failure with preserved Ejection Fraction). He has been sick for about 3 years, but, it’s hard to diagnose. After 31 days at Methodist Hospital over the past 4 months, including 2 weeks at the Heart Unit, he got his diagnosis and was told a transplant is required. Meanwhile, his condition will deteriorate.
His illness causes low oxygen with difficulty breathing; extreme fatigue; improper blood flow with balance and mobility issues; mental clarity and speech problems; fluid and swelling in the lungs, abdomen, legs, feet; etc. He gets lots of naps!
Kirk's fighting hard to maintain daily life activities, like errands, cooking, laundry, and work. Each day, each step, each action requires considerable effort. He’s been self-employed for most of his life, and can no longer work, though he's trying very hard and doing small jobs as possible. This is where we need the most help. He does not have insurance. It's humbling, but our immediate family has done all we can.
Ways you can help:
A. URGENT NEEDS:
-- The Bare-bones Basics: Living expenses such as Rent, food, gas, electricity, phone, internet, laundry soap, dog food, milk, etc. He's applying for assistance.
-- Immediate Medical expenses: Oxygen, Prescriptions, Doctor appts, hospital parking, etc.
* We estimate these immediate needs at $54,000, to catch up and cover his living/care expenses for the next 6 months. Meeting long-term and bigger financial needs such as hospitalizations and will require more. Thank you for anything you can do!
* Kirk will get Medicare Disability approval within 10-12 months, at which point he'll qualify for disability insurance.
B. LONG-TERM FINANCIAL NEEDS:
-- Home Health Care assistance for daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry. He needs help managing his home and errands.
-- His most recent medical bills are over $165k now, and multiplying.
Billing statements are available for review and financial accountability.
C. SERVICE/NON-FINANCIAL NEEDS: (Mom and I live hours away)
-- Prayers, prayers and lots more prayers, please!
-- We'd be grateful if you'd please SHARE this GoFundMe campaign with anybody you know!
Several of you have known Kirk since you were all little kids, even 5-6 years old. That's a long time! Alief Youth Association (AYA), baseball, growing up in the old days of Alief. You've known him through his son, Brett, West Sugar Land Little League (coaching, umpiring, mentoring), and all the adventures of fishing, dove-hunting, boating and doing things with the other kids and dads. You've known him through daughter Morgan and grandson Thomas. Kirk was always a "mr. fix it", and started working at Alief Batting Cages around age 8. By age 13, he created his own door-peephole business - that was all the start of lifelong endeavors in various careers, ownership of several businesses, and involvement in volunteering and numerous activities. The friendships and adventures created with you have impacted his life tremendously. With Alief and Sugar Land, add Seadrift, Port O'Connor, Faith activities, Tres Amigos Fishing tournaments, Gulf Coast Hot Shot delivery Service, K/P Designs audio/visual, faithful clients -the list goes on.
You can probably imagine the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual implications of needing a transplant, and, realizing, otherwise, you have a short time to live. It's the unknown, and scary. It's sad. Yet, it's a gift, and this is where you all come in! We pray to make this time as spectacular as possible, in all ways. Kirk's strong. He's making the best of it and keeping a positive attitude. He's still "Kirk"!
Again, please receive our outpouring of love and gratitude for your assistance. Thank you for your kindness.
P.S. Please SHARE this GoFundMe account as you'd like!
