Dontez was originally diagnosed in June of 2017 with a tumor his left femur bone. He started a lengthy series of chemotherapy and then had his left leg amputated above the knee.  Insurance denied to purchase a wheelchair for the family and they had to rent one for 3 months.  Insurance denied a prosthetic leg for this young active boy saying he didn't qualify since he had a partial leg.  After 6 months of fighting insurance, the surgeon and prosthetic therapist were successful getting his leg paid for.  Biggie started running and playing with the other kids and life started returning to a new normal until August 2018.  A little over a year after his original diagnose routine surveillance Scans showed a suspicious area in the lung.  This area turned out to be bone cancer metastasis to the lung. Biggie had to have a portion of his lung removed to prevent the spread of cancer through out his lung. Life once again returned back to normal back in Topeka with Dontez going to school something he missed so much last year while getting Chemo and surgery.

Jump to April 2019 during routine surveillance scans the devastating news came that the right wrist has a large tumor growing and another mass is spotted in the lung.  Biggie had a biopsy on his wrist 4/22 where the new cancer is growing. The results came back as high grade osteosarcoma and surgery  is planned Monday  4/29/19  The specialist will remove the cancer and a portion of his arm. They hope to save his hand for some simple functions if all goes according to plan. Biggie will receive chemo 6 days in a row and has to stay in the hospital a full week for each round over the next 4 months. Chemo is planned to start next week in Kansas City. His mother will stay with him around the clock and leave his little brothers back in Topeka with babysitters.

Please consider helping this family during this financially stressful time. It is the one simple way we can help! His mother Candace is currently unable to work as she has to be with Dontez at all Dr appointments, treatment and hospitalizations. They do not have a reliable transportation and we hope to use some funds to make repairs needed to their vehicle.   Since Dontez was diagnosed 2 years ago they have received no financial support. Please give $5 or more if possible. You can make donations anonymous if you prefer. We ask that donations are made to help this family with medical bills, rent and  daily expenses so Candace can be with Dontez in Kansas City and assist with child care for his brothers that are not allowed to come to the hospital or appts because of their age. Let’s help support this family so their only concern is to help : #BiggieBeatCancer
