Hi my is Stephanie Abrell, I went up to Killington on Saturday March 4th. I took one run to realize the new snow fall was much heavy then I thought it was gonna be. Second run I got going to fast, figured I could just ride it out, just a few more turns, get off this trail…. Then everything went wrong! A very large round rock was in the direction I was headed for. I needed to bail fast. I took a hard left, my buddy was right there, didn’t want to hit him. I hit the side of the rock, launched me in the air, as I came down on my right leg, snuck right down into the heavy snow. Left ski glided forward. With the speed I was going, the force that was created, as my right leg sunk right into the deep heavy snow. I Destroyed my right Tibia and broke my upper Fibula as my body flew forward and my leg stayed still. A beautiful young, strong willed, positive ski patrol lady rescued me. I could feel my bones floating around, my lower leg was simply not attached. When the ski patrol took my ski boots off that was the most power feelings I’ve ever felt. Between the pain, the relief it was off, I saved my ski boot from being destroyed, now reality kicked in. The gentlemen that assist me in the ambulance right was so positive and calm, made the ride pleasant. After the EX-Rays, MRI, the doctors arrived, off I went to have my leg rebuilt and a plate put in. Three ladies and a kind anesthesiologist took care of me. Onto to recovery I go! I never experienced an injury like this. They said it’ll be about 6 months till I’m a 100%. Between the 3 cows, 3 dogs, and a pig life gets expensive around the farm. After my sweetheart had a stroke a year and half ago, it drained us financially. And now I break my leg. I guess when life throws you a challenge you hold tight and work right through it. I don’t like asking for help, I never have! I don’t want Mark, my sweetheart to feel stressed financially now that he has to pay for all my bills plus his. Life has simply become way more expensive over the past two years. I’m putting myself out there, starting a fundraiser, I don’t expect anything, and would greatly appreciate any support I can get. Between buying land, the animals, my truck, credit card debt, there’s a few payments I need to make over the next few months without being able to work, that’s a lot to ask of Mark to take care of. Our Favorite Farm is set up nicely, easy to maintain, just cost money to keep it going.
