Big Trouble Halloween Skate Jam
Donation protected
For the past five years, Geronimo and Porter have supported the Atlanta skateboarding community by hosting the Big Trouble in Little 5 Points (BTL5P) Halloween Skate Jam.
It all started with two friends sketching on a bar napkin the dream to host the biggest, loudest skateboard contest Little 5 Points (L5P) had ever seen. It took a year of hustling, but in 2017, a skate competition like no other had come to Finley Plaza in L5P.
Fast forward to 2022, and BTL5P has grown to epic proportions and is now hosted in the side parking lot of The Star Community Bar.
The ramps are bigger. The keg jump is longer. The bands are louder. Essentially, Big Trouble's needs have grown. This is where we need you, our community, to help us host the next BTL5P 2022.
Below are estimates for various BTL5P expenses:
- Hand built large vert wall, kickers, landing platforms, rainbow rails, flatbars, hubbas, and coping - $3000
- Homies Doing all the Labor - $600 to $800
- Parking Lot Rental - $400
- On-site EMT - $200
- Trash Bags and Other Unforseen Circumstances - ?
It's an honor to be part of the Atlanta Skateboard Community. We appreciate the support everyone has shown over these past few years. We love you and can't wait to see you at BTL5P 2022.
EDIT 9.9.2022
It has come to our attention that some misinformation about previous sponsorships and funding is being shared, so we hope to offer some clarity into this matter.
We have, indeed, had corporate sponsorship of the event; however, the sponsorship was in the form of physical product and not monetary funds. All product that is donated is either given away at the contest or used in prize packs for the placing contestants. Each year, the product sponsors and donations vary, and each year, we are blown away by corporate, small business, and independent support.
Where did previous years' funding come from? T-shirts are printed with funds fronted by the event coordinators with the hopes that t-shirt sales will cover the total expense of BTL5P. Unfortunately, this doesn't usually happen and the event coordinators spend money out of pocket to make the event a success. This isn't a complaint. This is just to offer up how the event was really funded.
This contest is truly a labor of love. We really struggled with even considering a GofundMe, but we wanted to make this community event the best possible without any one individual bearing the majority of the expenses.
We are dedicated to operating in full transparency, so if you have any questions about funding, product donations, or anything else, please reach out to Gmo or Porter.
We love being part of the Skateboard Community, and we love how everyone is always willing to help a homie out. Thanks for supporting us.
