My parents will probably be upset with me, because all they've ever known is working hard for everything we have! I don't know how else to help them but try to raise some money to pay for some of his medical bills.
On November 13, 2017, he woke up with a weird pain in his neck, thinking that maybe he had slept on it wrong or something. Later that might, he returned home from a soccer game and his neck had tripled inside. After finally convincing him that it needed to be checked out, he was taken to the ER. After doing many tests and completing a biopsy of his lymph node, doctors were able to conclude that he has Stage 2b Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This is considered to be advanced. He also completed a bone marrow biopsy and thankfully the cancer has not spread to his bones. He does however have a mass in the middle of his chest and is currently taking steroids to make sure that it doesn’t get any bigger.
His treatment is a little tricky though. At first we weren’t sure if he would be able to do chemo because his heart was very weak. Before every chemo session, he has to go in a few days before to make sure that his heart is strong enough to continue treatment. A few days after, he gets blood work done to make sure he won’t need any blood transfusions. He is currently doing chemotherapy every 2 weeks, 5-6 hours a day, for a total of 6 months. He is currently halfway done with his treatment, and has 6 chemo treatments left!
Marko is the strongest boy I have ever met in my entire life. He is so loving, loves to joke around, and cares so much about those around him. Hearing that your loved one has cancer is one of the worst feelings in the world. It has shocked us all, but Marko’s strength and positive mindset throughout all of this is what makes it all a little bit easier. My brother is my hero, my bestfriend, and one of the happiest kids I️ know. He hasn’t let this bring him down and has continued doing all of the things he loves. He’s an inspiration to us all. He is going to beat this and I know that we have God on our side through this entire process.
Fortunately, our insurance does cover most of his procedures and medical costs. Any money not used towards medical costs will be donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help fund research, find a cure, and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients!
Thank you to everyone who has been there for us. Your prayers and kindness have not only helped us, but have put a huge smile on Marko’s face. He is so loved. Thank you all! ❤️
