BIG MIKE NEEDS A NEW HOME
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Renee Henry and I am a friend with Maurice Morris (Big Mike). Big Mike lives outside of New Orleans. I live in Atlanta. When my husband and I lived in New Orleans on the West bank of New Orleans, we would pass Big Mike's house every day to drive into New Orleans city. Big Mike and his extended family have lived on their parent's property since he was a child. I met Big Mike from feeding the feral cats that were starving on a vacant property next to Big Mike's property. We would wave hello. Big Mike would usually be outside tending his garden. One day I asked him if he would build a cat shelter for the feral cats to use during wet and cold weather. He built a beautiful shelter and placed it on the vacant property. We both searched for the owner of the property to ask permission and no one knew who owned it. The shelter worked well and the cats felt safe. One day, a woman claiming to be the owner, drove to the property and demanded I move the shelter. I asked Big Mike if I could move the shelter to his property and pay him minimal rent. He said ok. When the woman found out that I was moving the shelter to his property Mike is black and I am non-black, she and her son poured gasoline on the shelter and burned it down. The act was witnessed. There were kittens in the shelter. She was never charged and court records show it wasn't her property. Fire has brought us together again. Big Mike's house burned to the ground on Good Friday of 2023. He has no insurance and he will be completely homeless in a couple of weeks. Please give any amount ($5, $10, $25 or more)you can to help us reach our goal. Big Mike is a pure-hearted man and I consider him a good friend. By the way, we continued to build cat shelters after our first shelter was attacked. He needs our help now. We will use funds to clear out burned area and buy materials to build new home.
