One of our dear friends (Big) John Nevin passed away last Thursday. The brother Mike arrives Saturday and we would expect to have a service last next week or the following weekend. Aside from some of the normal Service Venues, I have inquired about Jade St. Park community center, Del Mar Middle School Park, and DeLaveaga State park, weather permitting.
John was a staple in the Santa Cruz area for well over 40 years. He is best remembered for league and tournament softball, his Hurry Back Inn bar, his dogs, and the many people that he directly or indirectly impacted during his lifetime. Personally, I am grateful to have had his friendship and miss him already. After speaking with the family and friends, there is a large desire to have a nice Memorial Service and celebration. Because John was in poor health the last couple of years, the family and friends would really appreciate any contribution you would be able to make.
Proceeds would go toward funeral expenses, reservations for a post-service celebration, food and whatever else the family requires. If there are extra proceeds, they will be donated to a worthy cause that the family and close friends can decide. If you can make your donations as soon as possible in any denomination, it will help with the planning of the service and cost of the services and help give the family more transparency into what type of service is feasible. Please pass this link around to people who I have not included. IN the meantime, I would hope that the time and place of the service will have been decided by this coming Sunday or Monday.
