Giving Season free meal fundraiser!
Donation protected
¡Hola comunidad!
Hello community!
We are Meals On Us PDX, a small, Queer BIPOC-run grassroots nonprofit organization located in NE Portland tackling food insecurity in marginalized communities. We have served shelters in Multnomah, Washington, and Clark County, as well as committed to providing free meals to low-barrier organizations such as the Behavioral Health Resource Center, Hygiene 4 All, Operation Nightwatch, and Beautiful Portland.
In addition to the meal services we facilitate for other organizations, we offer a donation-based meal service every Monday for anybody in need, and a Trans Meal Train, which delivers meals to Transgender and Gender Diverse individuals healing from gender-affirming surgery.
We are launching this fundraiser as we prepare for our Giving Season services. For many varied reasons, our staff doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, so we decided to dedicate ourselves to extra free meal services to aid our food insecure community.
Our first free meal services will be on Monday 11/20, the Transgender Day of Remembrance. We invite any transgender or gender diverse individuals available to pick up a meal and have dinner on us in remembrance of those we’ve lost. We are just a few cooks trying to make a difference, so we won’t be planning a memorial event. We just hope you’re able to enjoy a meal for two on us. Here is a sign up form for the TDOR meal pick up.
Our second free meal service will take place on Thanksgiving, Thursday 11/23. We won’t have turkeys!!!! But we will be offering Thanksgiving Family meals that serve four including a whole roasted chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green bean casserole. We’ve got you covered for everything but the pie!
Our Sign Up for Family Meal Pick Up will open on November 11 at 12AM. Spots will be limited!
In addition to handing out RSVP family meals, we will be serving individual hot meals to anybody who needs one, no questions asked. From 12PM to 5PM or until sold out, anybody who walks up can receive an individual portion of the Everything But The Pie meal.
If you aren’t able to donate to our fundraiser, there are so many other ways to help! We will be calling on our community to help us prepare for these events. If you’re familiar with knife work or are ready to roll up your sleeves to wash dishes, we’d love to welcome you into our kitchen space. Check out our Giving Season Volunteer Sign Up to plug in!
Overall, we are hoping to give out over 600 more free meals than we usually provide every week. We are so thankful and grateful for you, the community that supports us and makes this work possible. Thank you for every donation, every volunteer shift, and every share that helps us make these goals possible. We couldn’t do it without you.
