Meet Luna and Rufus.. we first met them back in December running around our neighborhood. Both extremely skittish and underfed, they were digging through garbage for scraps. Along with our neighbors, we tried to catch them with no success. Fast forward to last Thursday. Going about our regular day, we see these gentle giants again.. and this time they let themselves into our backyard! Both having lost significant weight since the last time we saw them, they were not skittish this time. They both looked defeated and scared. We bathed them and that’s when we saw how truly malnourished they were. Luna also had an apparent issue with both of her ears. We made them a home in our garage complete with more toys and blankets than they’ve probably ever seen. We took them both to the vet the next day. Luna had two ear infections, a fungal infection and a skin infection. Both dogs are at the very least 50lbs underweight and you guessed it... no chip. After seeing their condition there was no way we could return them back to the streets. We’ve reached out to rescues, but we feel a responsibility to these dogs to get them healthy before we find a suitable home for them. We have already paid out of pocket some $1k and are realizing we need help. And even though it’s hard to ask. Here we are. The funds gathered here are strictly for Rufus and Luna and their remaining vet bills, as well as food and supplements to get their weight to a normal range. Any bit helps, they have such a big heart and they didn’t deserve this neglect. Please see photos for updates on the pups!
