I am Lenora Mitchum, known to most as "Biera." I have always been known as a positive young lady who has worked hard as a cosmetologist to make a living for myself and my son. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with lupus in 2010 and rheumatoid arthritis shortly, thereafter. As a result of these illnesses, I developed a kidney disease which, over a short time, has advanced into stage 5 renal failure. Therefore, I am in need of a kidney transplant. Hopefully, a family member will be able to be a donor.

Now I face the next challenge. The transplant surgery and the length of time needed for successful recovery will mean being out of work for several months. As a self-employed worker, who is currently out of work, I am not entitled to any kind of paid sick days or leave.

Undergoing major surgery and months of recovery, while holding my breath that the new kidney will work, puts enough stress on my coping skills. The added stress of no income to support myself during this time, along with no means to cover significant out-of-pocket expenses incidental to transplantation, creates a situation that puts a healthy recovery in jeopardy.

I am young; I have so many mountains to still climb both personally and professionally - this may be my first real major life challenge, but I am determined to tackle it and emerge stronger than ever with God on my side. With your support, I can land on my feet ready to resume the pursuit of my personal and professional goals.
