Hello, my name is Bianief Tchiloemba I'm a Canadian from Montreal. This year, from April 21st till May 3rd, I was in Nepal. I am an occupational therapy student at the University of Montreal and therefore the medical system of other countries has always been fascinating to me. This is why, I went to that country to do volunteering in a care project with mentally and physically disabled children. However, soon after I arrived, the entire country was struck by the earthquake. When it hit, I was visiting Bhaktapur, a city built during the 8th century. What I saw then, were images of horror: entire buildings collapsing, people dying, women desperately looking for their children and so much more. After this unfortunate natural disaster, Anita, my host mother, suggested that we went to her village of Kirtipur-Chovar, as it seemed safer than where we were. When I was there, I got involved by helping to bring food and water to the villagers. In total, 95 houses in Kirtipur-Chovar had been completely destroyed and 11 people had lost their lives. To help them pass time and temporarily forget about the atrocities, I played with the children. I shared a tent with 150 families who treated me as one of their members despite their pain and losses. I will always remember the grandmother that told me that during the earthquake her house collapsed on her. While her legs were stuck in her house’s remains, she could hear her 6 years old grand daughter screaming for her help but she could not do anything for her as she could not move and had to helplessly watch her die. Seeing the way the people of Nepal helped each other, I realized just how hospitable and united they are. I stayed there for 5 days, before going back home. Now that I’m back to Canada, I really want to continue helping Nepal and the village I was in and this is where you come in. I am starting a fundraiser to help finance the reconstruction of their homes and I need your help. With your money, we can help rebuild labour workers’ houses, and bring the people living in poor resistant tents back to their homes.

Bonjour, je m’appelle Bianief Tchiloemba et je suis un Canadien de Montréal. Entre le 21 avril et 3 mai de cette année, je me trouvais au Népal. Etant donné que je suis un étudiant en ergothérapie à l’Université de Montréal, le système de santé d’autres pays m’a toujours beaucoup intéressé. C’est pourquoi, je suis allé dans ce pays afin de faire du bénévolat auprès des enfants ayant des incapacités physiques et mentales dans un centre de réadaptation. Toutefois, 2 jours après mon arrivé, le pays tout entier fut frappé par un séisme. Lors du tremblement de terre, je me trouvais à Bhaktapur, une ville médiévale datant du 8ème siècle. Partout autour de moi, j’ai vu des scènes d’horreur: des immeubles s’écrouler, des gens mourrir et des femmes cherchant désesperement leurs enfants. Suite à la catastrophe naturelle, Anita, ma mère d'accueil, nous a proposé d'aller dans son village natal Kirtipur-Chovar, car il paraissait plus sécuritaire que la ville de Patan dans laquelle je me trouvais. Quand j’y étais, je me suis impliqué auprès des villageois en aidant à leur transporter de l’eau et de la nourriture. Au total, lors du séisme 95 maisons de Kirtipur-Chovar furent complètement détruites et 11 personnes ont perdu la vie. Afin de les aider à passer le temps et oublier temporairement les évènements traumatisants qu’ils avaient vécus, je jouais avec les enfants. Je partageais une tente avec 150 familles qui me traitaient comme si j’étais un de leur propre membre malgré leur douleur et leurs pertes. Je me souviendrai toujours de la grand-mère qui m’a raconté que les décombres de sa maison avaient ensevelis son corps du tronc jusqu’aux pieds. Elle entendait les cris de sa petite-fille de 6 ans qui lui demandait de l’aide. Malheureusement, elle ne pu l’aider car elle était coincée. Elle a dû la regarder mourrir, impuissante. En voyant la façon dont chaque personne contribuait pour survenir aux besoins de la communauté, j’ai réalisé à quel point le peuple Népalais est hospitalier et solidaire. J’y suis resté 5 jours avant de revenir chez moi. Maintenant que je suis de retour au Canada mon désir est de continuer d’aider le Nepal, ainsi que les villageois de Kirtipur-Chovar. Je commence une collecte de fonds et dans cette démarche j’ai besoin de votre aide. Grâce à votre argent, nous pouvons contribuer à la reconstruction du plus grand nombre de maisons possible et ramener les personnes vivant dans des tentes peu résistantes de retour dans leurs foyers alors que la saison des pluies approche à grands pas.
