Bianca the Sweetest Mama Rescue Goat

Bianca is in the hospital at NC State Veterinary Hospital. After a life-saving radical double mastectomy, she was healing well except for one area in the deepest part of her surgical suture where her enormous udders were connected to her little body. That part of her suture is what’s not doing well. She will require several days in the hospital and the costs are skyrocketing. Bianca is alert, eating and drinking, and is her usual sweet self, socializing with everyone and snuggling. She is systematically sound with good vitals and bright. Her vet team including the vet clinic students adore Bianca and she is right where she needs to be — for as long as we can afford to let her stay there. Bianca is a rescue goat who suffered from a painful condition called precocious udder, causing her to produce milk continuously for years, as much as a gallon per day, despite Herculean (both medical and holistic) efforts to help dry her up. Bianca’s condition became emergent and she nearly lost her life.

Eventually, Bianca's blown teat and painful scar tissue made it impossible to relieve the pressure in her udders and only a radical mastectomy could give Bianca a chance at a new, long and pain-free life.

Thanks to generous donations, the heroic team at NC State Veterinary Hospital successfully performed the mastectomy and saved Bianca's life! They removed 8 lbs of udders and scar tissue after draining the milk.

Bianca is a survivor! It's amazing how much this little animal wants to live and thrive. This sweet goat was the only surviving member of her farm before coming to live with Kelly and her other rescue critters, as a calming goat / companion for a rescued horse named Star Dancer. Bianca arrived pregnant and never stopped making milk after her son Flash was born. Bianca has overcome the odds to live through so much, and is an intelligent, affectionate goat who loves everyone. She has also helped others struggling to cope with their own life challenges.
