Hello Everyone,
My name is Alan and my long time best friend for over 20 years Bianca Maher (pictured right with her mum and younger sister in attached photo), has unfortunately been hit with cancer - again! Papillary Thyroid Cancer to be exact and after the first surgery to remove the cancer, it was soon discovered that there was high chance of the cancer spreading. A second surgery is scheduled in June to remove the rest of her thyroid.
Due to this condition, Bianca has had to relocate from Alice Springs to Adelaide in order to access the necessary care. Bianca had to quit her job, leave her family behind and start the process of recovery. This is a very trying and difficult time for her and I really want to help and i'm calling out to anyone who may be willing to pitch in any way possible. I know she would be so so grateful for any help received, whether it be money or even accomodation, as she will be needing somewhere to stay in Adelaide over the next 12 months.
After the initial surgery in June to remove the rest of the thyroid, radiation RAI treatment follows, which is a pill that is ingested to kill any remaining cancerous cells. For around 5 days after ingestion, care has to be taken, because of the radiation remaining in Biancas body.
Bianca has battled with cancer and numerous gynaecological issues for over 15 years now and most recently (not including the thyroid cancer), a hysterectomy in 2019, the surgical removal of her womb.
7 years ago, Bianca also suffered from a Pancreatic Neuroendocrine tumor, which required emergency Whipples' surgery and as some people may know this is not a nice procedure which results in chronic ongoing complications, accompanied with lots of pain and 'Whipple attacks'.
In total Bianca has had over 20 surgeries and in some cases Doctors have not been able to diagnose the correct condition due to her circumstances being quite unique for someone her age. The good news is she has found some good help and a friendly Doctor that really wants her to get on the right recovery path.
Bianca is such a strong, fun loving woman, and if you didn't ask, you would never know how sick she is because she always so enjoyable to be around.
It's another hurdle in her life, which she is again taking in her stride, although this time she tells me it starting to take its toll and its getting hard and painful.
So thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this, I really appreciate it, if you could take the next step and chuck in a little, we both would be forever grateful, but if not thats all good, maybe just spare a thought for my bestie, she's doing it tough.
