Help Sonia's Fight Against Brain Tumor and Give Hope
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well. I am Sonia Broadway, an English teacher known as 'Ms. B' to my 200 amazing students. For two decades, I've dedicated my life to teaching and nurturing young minds. Now, I find myself on an unconventional journey, facing a daunting diagnosis of glioblastoma and the challenges of a frontal lobectomy.
This has become my unexpected plot twist.
My treatment regimen includes a grueling six-week course of Temedir radiation, a groundbreaking therapy called Optune with tumor-treating fields, EKG leads that pulse into my brain for 19 hours a day, countless MRIs, and ongoing radiation.
On top of that, I have the opportunity to participate in a very promising clinical trial in Los Angeles, which would require multiple trips each week from Las Vegas.
Why the urgency, you ask? I have to return to work because I no longer have sick days, and my paycheck stands at $0.
I have one semester left to ensure my incredible seniors cross the graduation credit cutoff. I won't let them down.
I've been told that glioblastoma is a harsh reality, with a prognosis of a maximum of two years. Part of me says I should be chasing bucket list dreams, but the other part says I don't have much time to make a lasting impact in this world.
I need to get moving to make it a better place.
Currently, my medical bills have surpassed one million dollars, and the tough part is just beginning.
Your support has been invaluable. With your generosity, I've been able to buy one "frivolous" item - a portable 72" inflatable tub that lets me submerge and find solace from the pain. It's a lifeline, and it shows that every contribution makes a difference.
Now, I'm turning to you once again. Your donations will help me participate in the clinical trial and cover expenses like transportation to and from chemotherapy, possible hotel stays, and the ever-mounting medical bills.
I recently received the Frontier airline unlimited year pass as a gift, which could aid in travel, but I still need your support.
If you've contributed in the past, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness matters.
I want to see the next Christmas and make a difference in my students' lives. Please help me achieve that.
Together, we can turn this chapter into one of hope and resilience.
Thank you for being a part of my journey toward healing.
Your compassion means the world to me.
Sincerely,
Sonia Broadway
