Jack Brown is an ordinary, kind, fun, and loving 12 year old boy. Just a country kid who loves to fish, his friends, his hometown of Deville/Buckeye, and adores his Mom (Caycee) and older brother (Samuel). On January 27, 2021, this ordinary, country kid's life changed drastically and now he is all of those things BUT now is also a Brain Cancer Warrior...
Jack went to school at Buckeye Junior High School on January 27, 2021 as a regular day at school. During class, Jack went to the office at school with a horrible, sudden headache. Things quickly spiraled into Jack falling into a seizure and becoming unresponsive. He was taken by ambulance to the ER and while at the ER, he had several more seizures and was admitted to PICU for one week.
After CT scans and MRIs, an unidentifiable mass was discovered in Jack's right temporal lobe. The ER's neurology team's best guess was a low grade astrocytoma. His scans and records were sent to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN and he was quickly accepted as a patient. After more tests, CT scans, MRIs, and appointments, the team at St Jude's Children's Research Hospital decided surgery was the best option for Jack since they confirmed there was definitely a tumor.
On February 18, 2021 Jack underwent brain surgery and a lobectomy was performed of his right temporal lobe. The surgery was successful as MRIs have shown the entire brain tumor was removed.
Jack was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (a grade 4 astrocytoma). This is a very aggressive form of cancer more commonly found in adults, very rare in children. Of the 2000 children diagnosed with brain tumors a year, only 6% are this particular type.
Jack continues to be a patient at St Judes and is now beginning radiation and chemotherapy. The radiation will be a 6 to 8 week process and the chemotherapy will last a minimum of one year, consisting of treatments every 2 weeks.
This is going to be a very long, hard road for Jack, his Mom (Caycee), and brother (Samuel). Caycee is a single Mom, unable to work at this time due to being with Jack 24/7, and will be making many drives back and forth to Memphis (386 mile / 6 hour trip). Samuel will stay in Louisiana to finish his senior year of high school and to help keep things ready for Jack at home.
This family will need support, love, and prayers from everyone surrounding them in this journey.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Let's show Jack that he is a WARRIOR and he will NEVER fight this alone!
