Help Selena battle PSC
Donation protected
My name is Lisa and I have a daughter named Selena. I’ve always been a strong advocate for my daughter’s health, even more so now. She is 28 years old and has been diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in 8/2023. PSC is a chronic, rare liver disease that involves scarring of the bile ducts. The scars make the ducts hard and narrow and eventually cause liver failure. The disease can lead to repeated infections and cancer, which typically doesn’t respond well to treatment. The only cure for this disease is a liver transplant.
The more severe the disease is, the higher you are on the list. Selena has already been approved and is on the transplant list, waiting for the liver.
As a mother, it’s incredibly hard to see my daughter go through this. She is smart, funny, loving, and so giving.
Since her diagnosis, she has already been hospitalized eight times with three ICU visits, each admission lasting at least 1 week. We live three hours away from the hospital, so we also have the cost of gas, parking, and food with every admission. With the number of hospital admissions, her hospital bills are astronomical. This does not even include the cost of her upcoming transplant and recovery time and cost after the transplant. As sick as she is, she still manages to work part-time. However, with the many admissions, we have both missed a great deal of work without pay. During her hospital admissions, and the severity of her condition when she has to be admitted, her father and I have been her caregivers. Dealing with working without pay, the emotional and physical stressors of keeping up with appointments and procedures, and making sure she is getting the proper nutrition has taken a toll on the family. We are still standing strong through it.
We are asking for donations to help cover costs. Even if you can’t donate, we are asking for your prayers, and we appreciate everything that you’re doing to help us.
