We are starting this GoFundMe for Michael who lives in San Diego with his wife Keri and stepson Tyler.

Over the weekend Michael was doing what he loves and is passionate about- surfing, and had a fluke accident. Michael was thrown from the surfboard and unbelievably landed on the tail of the board where he was impaled, causing extreme damage to his rectum and genitals. It was a horrific and traumatizing experience.

Lifeguards were able to pull him from the water and keep him from bleeding and were able to articulate the severity of the injury and contact Keri. He was taken to Tri City Hospital where doctors tended to him for several hours and it was decided he needed to be transferred via ambulance to La Jolla Scrips, since they had the specialty equipment and doctors.

We are beyond thankful that Michael is not facing life-threatening injuries. But he is facing a long journey ahead. It’s looking like he has a severed urethra and needs to undergo reconstructive surgery in the coming weeks. He’s been in the hospital for several days to be monitored as blood clots have formed and there is also a big concern around the toxicity of urine not being released on its own. Due to not being able to urinate, he has been sent home with a catheter that exits directly out of his abdomen.

Michael is a tradesman / handyman and will not be able to work while he’s healing and recovering which we’re unsure of depending on how surgery goes and the projected recovery time. We are hopeful he can undergo surgery as soon as possible.

Our hope is to raise funds for Michael that will assist him with all the medical expenses and financial coverage while he’s out of work. Any amount of donation is appreciated and we are asking to add Michael to your prayers.
