Hi, I'm Jake. I've been sick for most of my life. If you know me or my mom you probably know I've been diagnosed by lots of doctors with lots of things... Lyme disease, autoimmune encephalopathy, arthritis, celiac disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, myalgic encephalopathy, and my personal favorite - just needing a good shrink. Nothing has been able to fix the headaches I get when I try to think, or read, or concentrate on anything. I've gotten used to the muscle pain. I can do lots of things, I just can't jump, bend at the knees, run, be on my feet for very long. So here's why I'm writing today.
There is a clinic in California, started by a Stanford researcher whose own son got a virus, just like me, and just never recovered. This dad has gotten some of the best medical minds together to figure out how to treat people like me and discover why we don't get better. It is called Open Medicine Institute and I just found out tonight that i have an appointment there on March 22nd!!! Just when I was giving up! This dad/doctor has gathered researchers from Stanford, Harvard, three Nobel laureates...I don't know what that means but I know they are really freaking smart. I feel like this is my last and best shot at getting better. I want to be able to go to school again, I want to be able to think without feeling like my head is exploding. It would be amazing to be able to run around and jump and dance full out again, but it's hard to imagine I could have both a working brain and So we will hope for the brain first. Medical Miracle Flights is getting us to California and back. I can't believe it. My mom said she can come up with the $1575 for three appointments, but i know what that means. It means it's coming from money meant for heat or food or something else and it's going to suck. Sorry, but it is the only way to describe it. So I am starting this FundMe page in hopes of raising the doctor fees and the two-night hotel stay for each of the three appointments. I don't know how we will get from the airport to the hotel and to the appointments yet, so I was thinking $2500 would be a safe guess?
I know everybody has their own stuff going on and I am a lucky person. But i would truly appreciate any help you can offer to get me to this clinic to get better.
