Help Eric Recover

For 14 years I have been blessed enough to have the presence of my Step dad, Eric Cloutier in my life. He has been more than amazing from day 1. I knew upon meeting him at 7 years old that my mom needed to keep him around, and made sure she knew it every day. He became a dad to me in no time at all. It was never "I have a dad and a step dad" because in my eyes, I just had two dads. And to him, he had gained two daughters. There was never any distinction made between Erikka, the daughter he had with my mom, and myself and Corissa, my mom's daughters from a previous relationship. It was always just "I have three daughters", while proudly showing people the pictures of us he had in his wallet. He is amazing.
This past Sunday (the 13th) one of the worst things that could've ever happened to us happened. He was in an accident that nearly killed him. While helping a friend cut down a tree, something went wrong and the tree fell on top of him. He has a broken collarbone, most of the ribs on one side broken, a collapsed lung on the opposite side which makes him unable to breathe on his own, a crushed leg, and worst of all, a broken spine in two separate places. Because of this last injury the doctors say it will be a very very long road to recovery. Our proud provider, the man who took on 16-20 hour days to make sure my mother didn't have to work a job that stressed her out to the point of throwing up many years ago, now may not be able to even walk. We are heart broken with no idea what to do. Not only will he not be able to work for quite awhile, but our current house can not accommodate someone with such an injury. There are 4 floors including the basement, all with stairs between them. There is a bathroom in the basement and on the second floor, and a shower in the basement and second floor... His bedroom used to be on the 3rd floor... there is no way he will ever be able to walk all those stairs anytime soon. They're hard for anyone, let alone someone with such serious injuries.
There are two options at this moment. Renovate our house so that it can accommodate someone who cannot walk (ramps, an electrically powered chair that can get him up and down the basement stairs at the very least, a bathroom on the main floor possibly... among other things that have not yet even been determined) , or buy a house that can. The first option will be less expensive, though still much more than any normal human has laying around in savings. My stepdad is part of a union, but as his most recent job was non-union there are no benefits through them, and since the accident was not work related there is no workers compensation. Right now I am hoping and praying for the generosity of others to ease the strain on my mother so that she can focus on being with him and helping him recover over the next 6 months- one year instead of worrying herself sick over money. Whether it's ten dollars, five dollars, or one dollar, anything will help! Love you all. ❤
