On August 2nd, Andrew Miller was in a Go-Kart accident resulting in an open compound humerus fracture. Andrew was life-flighted to Grant Medical Center where he received his first surgery to fixate his humerus with a rod. Shortly after getting home post-surgery, Andrew was admitted again to Grant Medical Center where he had a washout surgery to remove infection and was sent back home with antibiotics. Things seemed to be on the uphill swing for the following weeks until a small abscess appeared on his arm. On September 19th, Andrew went in for a 3rd surgery. This surgery was to wash out any infection and replace the rod with plates and screws. What was originally an outpatient surgery turned into a 4-day hospital stay, and Andrew was sent home post-surgery with a PICC line and at-home antibiotic infusions to help fight off any remaining infection. One of Andrew's stitches near his elbow started to experience issues, and his ortho team decided to apply a Wound Vac for 7 days to help with healing. Andrew returned to work last week on light computer duty, and things were looking up again. After a follow-up appointment today, his healing is not where we need it to be. Andrew will be admitted again tomorrow (October 14th) for an estimated 2 weeks where his reconstructive plastic surgery team will perform another debridement procedure and later a skin flap surgery to cover the area in his elbow that is struggling to heal.
Unfortunately, Andrew does not have Short Term Disability, but with the very appreciated help of family members, we have been making things work during his unexpected time off from work.
Andrew has a long road to recovery ahead, and all funds raised through this GoFundMe will help with medical costs, home utilities, and recovery costs.
